Silk Textures is delighted to welcome acclaimed Dutch producer Stephen J. Kroos to its imprint. Known for his numerous contributions to Anjunadeep / Anjunabeats (on which he also released an artist album), Kroos has made a name for himself over the past half-decade through a consistently rich output of deep, sophisticated, and always innovative compositions.
The first track of the EP, ironically entitled "An Ending," features a gorgeous cello and a variety of additional atmospheric effects. More specifically, echoes of a breathy female vocal punctuate the mix, as well as some delicate piano stabs. Meanwhile a cavernous bassline and some crafty percussion work offer a nice groove. The 'ending' of the tune is especially gorgeous, as the beat drops out and the stunning soundscape, evoking visions of the Far East, takes complete hold.
The second tune in the package is "Procyon" (another signature from Kroos -- enigmatic titles that perfectly reflect the complexity of his tracks). A truly atmospheric beauty, this one sinks into even deeper territory, with its steady rhythm and bass and perpetually soothing atmospheric effects. The latter half of the tune features "robotized" synth sounds, breathing effects, and a variety of light arps in the background.
Finally, Kroos presents "The Reasonable Gatekeeper," which centers on a booty-shaking groove, shuffling rhythmic effects, and, once again, gorgeous pads and swells. At the quarter turn of the track, a hard-hitting bassline emerges and proceeds to slowly crescendo, leading into a powerful, dancefloor-friendly drop.
